Annual Vocation Poster Contest

Dear Pastors, Principals and Teachers,

The week of November 3-9, 2024, we will be celebrating National Vocation Awareness Week.  This is a week-long celebration to promote and pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life.  We encourage your parish and school to pray for vocations, promote vocations, and establish a culture of vocations.

To help your parish school promote vocations, the Office of Vocations invites your students to participate in a Vocation Poster Contest.  Religion and art classes are asked to work together by incorporating vocation lessons during National Vocation Awareness Week.  The vocation lessons should lead into the Vocation Poster Contest where students will have an opportunity to take what they learned and share it in a creative way.  Vocation lesson resources can be found here.

Students in K through 8th grade are invited to create a poster 8 ½” x 11” but no larger than 11” x 17” to promote vocations.  Posters should be hand-drawn which consists of artwork that uses pencil, paint, markers, crayons, etc.  Students are encouraged to use scripture verses, slogans, catchy phrases, or other words to highlight the promotion of vocations.

Each individual parish school is encouraged to recognize their student’s exceptional work on a local level and then submit only the top 5 posters per grade level to our office to be judged on a diocesan level.  All submissions may be mailed to the Vocations Office or dropped off to your nearby Associate Vocation Director by Wednesday, December 11th.  The posters will be judged based on creativity, craftsmanship, effort, and the overall vocation message.  Winners on the diocesan level will have their posters printed and distributed in the region of their school.

Thank you for your help in fostering a culture of vocations in our diocese.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 815-399-4300 or send us an email at vocations@rockforddiocese.org.  We look forward to your students’ participation.

Sincerely in Christ,

Rev. Jack T. Reichardt
Vocation Director
